Turistički vodič kroz Bar

Bar

Bar represents a modern town that is expanding every day. Although it is a port town, it is amazingly clean and has many developed green areas. Around it there are many tourist attractions. The old town of Bar, Haj Nehaj Fortress, with the remnants from the 15 th century fortress and the castle of King Nikola, represent the historic and cultural monuments of this town. There’s an Old Olive Tree that is more than 2000 years old and Skadar lake, with one of the biggest habitats of birds, as well as a large number of monasteries and churches for the visitors who enjoy this type of tourism. Numerous festivals and cultural events, such as: the International TV Festival, Meetings Under The Old Olive Tree, the Bar Chronicle. Set up beaches and bays as Dobre Vode, Sutomore, Canj will make you come to Bar again. Bar is a modern city, built almost entirely after World War II, with modern buildings, wide boulevards and lots of parking space. The most famous feature of the city is the Port of Bar, an entry point for large amount of goods imported into Montenegro. Besides being Montenegro's main seaport, Bar and its surroundings are a popular destination for tourists. There are some nice cobble beaches in Bar itself and the entire area around Bar is mostly untouched nature.

The Bar municipality stretches to the southern shore of Skadar lake and encompases Krajina region. This entire area is suitable for leisure activities and hiking. Smaller settlements near Bar, such as Dobre Vode, Sutomore and Čanj, are favourite destination for sunbathing, with their long sandy beaches. As for tourist attractions Bar has many interesting alternatives; the old town of Bar, Haj Nehaj Fortress, with the remainings from the 15th century fortress and the castle of King Nikola. Bar has a wind blowing for the south about 88 days a year, mostly during the winter. The southern wind is very soft and warm, but raises the waves in the sea. The weather temperature is as in July – about 28°C (82°F). There are approximately 2160 sunny hours a year. In winter the temperature drops down to 10°C the lowest.

Aqua park Bar

Bar is situated in the South of Montenegro. The area over which municipality of Bar is spread is situated between the Adriatic Sea and Skadar. The territory of Bar is 506 km 2 , and along with the part that encompasses water surface of the Skadar Lake (on the Bar side), the area sums up to 633km 2 . The central part of the Bar area represents the mountain massif of Rumija (the highest peak 1595 m) along with Sozina (971 m), Sutorman (1185) and Lisinja (1352 m), that has a dinaric direction of expanding and makes a natural border between the Adriatic Sea and the Skadar Lake. As Bar is only 180 m by airline from the Strait of Otranto, it is connected by waterway to Middle and East Mediterranean, and ports of all continents, so such a link enables shorter and direct connections with all the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.The climate of Bar is very characteristic. Beside the fact that it is one of the sunniest places of the South Europe, with approximately 270 sun hours per year, the climate has long and warm summers, and mild winters. The summers in Bar are long and dry, and because of the heat influences of the Adriatic Sea the winters are mild and rainy. On the average, during the winter in Bar there are 38 rainy days in a year. Considering the fact that the municipality of Bar, concerning the relief, is divided in three regions: Adriatic, lake and mountain region, in some parts of the Bar municipality we can differ three types of climate. In the Adriatic zone the climate is mild – Mediterranean, especially distinct in Bar field. The characteristics of the mountain-Mediterranean climate are especially customary in the mountain wreaths, especially above mountains Sutorman, Rumija and Lisanj. In the zone of the Skadar Lake we have the Adriatic climate, with strong influences of the continental climate, and significant oscillations in temperature.

Municipality of Bar encompasses some parts around places of Virpazar, Crmnica, and Skadar Lake, so the climate in those areas is significantly different from the climate in Bar. When the Southwestern circulation (stream) is turns out, then the area of Bar is exposed to wet air. Beside the fact that from the olive tree a famous oil better known as “The Bar gold“, which is one of the several export articles of the Montenegrin trade mark “Made in Montenegro“, is being extracted, olive oil is a very important ingredient of many traditional meals, especially those that are made of fish. In Bar and the surroundings several kinds of olive trees grow, and the most frequent are black and yellow olive tree, more famous as “crnjaka“ and “zutica“. Also, Bar households are engaged in growing grape wine, and rather often certain heads of the households grow citrus fruits, oranges, lemon, kiwi, tangerines (mandarins)   on their plantations but also other sub tropic kinds that are very numerous in the area of Bar like wild and cultivated pomegranate, figs. Cephalopods are mostly hunted in the winter period especially: squids, European cuttlefish, octopus but also shells and crabs. In sufficient amount in Bar aquatorium there are still mussels, while rarely there are oysters, and finger like shells.

Stari Bar Montenegro

In Bar, cultures meet and seem to mix in breathtaking ways.  In the intervening thousands of years since being settled during Neolithic times, Bar has continued to grow while maintaining ancient monuments to the many cultures that left their imprint on Bar.  In a nutshell, Bar is an important destination for travelers looking to taste all that Montenegro has to offer in a single, magnificent place. A bustling seaport and major seat of Montenegro’s maritime commerce, Bar stretches it’s legs along the sea as we stretch ours across the pristine sands of nearby Sutorman beach.  As you leave the water’s edge in Bar and proceed towards the mountain, you encounter Old Town Bar. Old Town Bar is one of those magical places where modern residents live in the shadow of Turkish baths, Roman aqueducts and a citadel where the first stones were laid over 1000 years ago.  The Montenegrin government has been pursuing an ambitious project to completely restore Old Town Bar and make it into a living museum, and this emphasizes the important the Old Town Bar has on local Montenegrin tourism, and also as a cultural, religious, and historical icon for the entire nation.  Other notable landmarks in Old Town Bar include the ruins of King Nicola’s castle, Haj Nehaj fortress, and Saint Veneranda church. Also worth investigating in

Old Town Bar: the Bishop’s palace, the ancient walls, and the gunpowder store.Beneath our feet as we step across Old Town Bar’s cobbled streets, we can only imagine what treasures Bar seems to hide from our view. On the highest point near the Citadel you can feel the ages spread out beneath you and you can almost imagine the caravans which winded their way along the old road from Lake Skadar, through the ravines cut deep into Rumija mountain where ancient olive groves, some with 2000 year old trees, still lend their fruits to Bar’s excellent olive oil. When we speak about Montenegro we think about its rich history, tranquil seaside beaches, or perhaps beautiful villages tucked into serene mountainsides. All of these factors that make Montenegro so very alluring seem to coincide in the ancient town of Bar. If we take one thing away from Bar, especially after visiting Old Town Bar, it should be that Montenegro’s history spans thousands of years and many cultures, each which have left their own mark on Bar, Old Town Bar, and Montenegro itself.  These small imprints of Montenegro’s cultural history can be seen on the rocky slopes of Sutorman and Lisinje, where Old Town Bar proudly displays it’s stone buildings that seemingly leap from the mountainside while blending into it’s rough beauty at the same time.  The city has developed into a bustling port in modern times, with modern amenities and a reputation for impressive beaches nearby. You can read the history of Old Bar in other places. Or you can simply come and look, run your hand over the rock, pass through the archway of the gates, up the steps to Old Town Bar, and breath in the history of many thousands of years. To arrive to Bar, you can travel along the breathtaking Adriatic motorway which visits many of Montenegro’s most spectacular seaside towns.  Alternatively, Bar is only 40 kilometers from Podgorica International Airport (TGD) and 50 kilometers from the city of Podgorica itself.
