Turistički vodič kroz Foču

i-Foča

It is situated in the south-eastern part of Republic of Srpska. The most important gem of Foča is the National Park – “Sutjeska” with Perućica jungle, as well as the mountains of Zelengora and Maglić, Volujak and Vučevo rich in game, including the attractive lakes full of fish, suitable for hunting and fishing. NP „Sutjeska“ is the oldest and biggest national park in BIH, a pearl of RS and BIH with its natural value and beauty. Foča municipality is known for rafting on the Tara and Drina, as well as for fishing on these rivers which are full of fish. The Tara river is a protected zone with a long tradition of extreme water sports. The act of an exciting rafting itself makes the enjoyment in nature complete. Near the town itself, on the road toward Sarajevo, there are sand pyramids that can be called a unique wonder of nature.

Foča is located on the banks of the rivers Ćehotina and Drina, in the east of the Republika Srpska. Sutjeska National Park represents the basis of the development of tourism. The area of the National Park includes the Perućica Reserve, parts of the mountains Maglić, Volujak and Zelengora. The highest peak in Bosnia Herzegovina, Maglić (2386m), is located on the territory of the National Park. A densely intertwined Perućica is a great experience for anyone who finds himself in this old-growth forest. There are some places where human beings have never set foot. The river Tara is ideal for Kayaking. This is the camp owner's boat, he lets everybody go for a paddle free of charge. Make sure to to keep smaller kids on a rope and don't let them out there without a vest like my boy is doing here. They have. Cruising down Tara river on a raft is a mystical experience. The nature is overwhelming. The canyon is second in size only to the Grand Canyon in Colorado and the water is potable in the whole length of the river. Adrenaline junkies should come in spring, when water levels are high. August/September is good time for families with kids or people who drink a lot and can't tell a paddle from a baseball bat.

With no particular planning or advance restaurant booking and being a group of 12 and waiting for more to arrive we opted for a picnic in the local park, before the kids get run over in the parking lot. Offering free rafting trip, equipment and transportation to the rafting area, Rafting Center Drina Tara is located right on the Tara riverbank in Bastasi, 18 km from the small town of Foca. It features an on-site restaurant and beds in wooden cabins. All wooden dormitory cabins are simply furnished. A shared bathroom and toilet are at guests' disposal. There is an a-la-carte restaurant located on site. In the surroundings of Rafting Center Drina Tara guests can enjoy hiking, trekking and mountain biking. There is even a volleyball field and a football court on site. Numerous walking trails can be found around the river. Jeep safari and canyoning can be organised on site at a surcharge. Guests can also arrange trips to Sutjeska and Durmitor National Parks.

Cafe Alexandria is the first restaurant on the right as you enter the town of Foca. Travelers coming from Sarajevo can reach Foca by car or bus in about 1.5 hours. Guests arriving by bus will be picked up at the bus station in Foca. Eastern and southern borders of the municipality are also the border with Montenegro, in the northeast it borders with the municipality Cajnice, in the north with the municipalities of Foca / Ustikolina and Gorazde in the Federation BH (FBH), in the west with the municipality  of Kalinovik and in southwest with the municipality of Gacko.
